Mythology, Religion & Legend β Power Ranking TOP 100
I wrote a book ranking the most powerful gods, monsters, and heroes from world mythology, religion, and legend! The ranking is heavily influenced by my own perspective, but every placement is grounded in the actual lore and episodes from each mythology, so I think it makes for a satisfying read.
In this post, Iβd like to introduce some of the characters featured in the ranking. There are many more beyond the ones mentioned here, so if youβre interested in mythology, religion, or legend, I think youβll enjoy it!
Rank 75: Bhima (Hindu Mythology / Mahabharata)

Overview
Bhima is the second of the five Pandava brothers in the Indian epic the Mahabharata, born as a demigod son of the wind god Vayu.
His extraordinary physical strength is frequently referenced in the myths β said to be equivalent to the power of ten thousand elephants β and he left such an impression that in modern India, a person with great strength is still called a βBhima.β
His primary weapon is the massive club called the βKaumodaki (the diamond club),β which he wielded freely to sweep away countless enemies.
Beyond his strength, from childhood he survived the most powerful poisons administered to him without dying, was tied up and thrown into a river while he slept and came out unharmed β showing superhuman resistance and toughness.
In the Kurukshetra War, he is said to have personally killed over 91 of the hundred Kaurava brothers β an incomprehensibly superhuman feat of valor.
He also engaged in a 1-on-1 duel with the powerful king Jarasandha β a match that even Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, had difficulty handling β fighting on equal terms for 27 consecutive days before finally defeating him, demonstrating a clearly superhuman level of endurance.
Why This Ranking
Bhima is to Indian mythology what Hercules is to Greek mythology β a being of overwhelming power whose sheer physical might clearly transcends the human realm.
His feat of single-handedly defeating most of a hundred heroic brothers shows not just brute strength but extraordinarily high combat skill, and the fact that no poison of any kind could kill him places him firmly at a divine level in both resistance and durability.
Indeed, Bhima never lost a direct combat encounter throughout the myths.
On the other hand, he is almost entirely helpless against opponents his strength canβt overpower, and unlike his brother Arjuna, he cannot use divine weapons (astras) or magic β suggesting his adaptability to unconventional tactics is limited.
Furthermore, there is a story in which he tried to move an old man out of the road but couldnβt budge him at all β revealing that this old man was actually Hanuman in disguise β clearly indicating that top-tier divine beings like Hanuman are in an entirely different league.
Taking all of this into consideration, I judged this position in the ranking to be appropriate.
