Mythology, Religion & Legend β Power Ranking TOP 100
I wrote a book ranking the most powerful gods, monsters, and heroes from world mythology, religion, and legend! The ranking is heavily influenced by my own perspective, but every placement is grounded in the actual lore and episodes from each mythology, so I think it makes for a satisfying read.
In this post, Iβd like to introduce some of the characters featured in the ranking. There are many more beyond the ones mentioned here, so if youβre interested in mythology, religion, or legend, I think youβll enjoy it!
Rank 69: Hephaestus (Greek Mythology)

Overview
Hephaestus is the god of the forge and fire in Greek mythology and one of the twelve Olympians. He is famous not as a direct combatant, but as a skilled craftsman who creates a variety of divine artifacts.
He is credited with forging the invincible shield Aegis used by Zeus and Athena, the bows and arrows of Apollo and Artemis, the automaton Talos, the first woman Pandora (the figure at the center of the Pandoraβs Box myth), and countless other creations. The majority of the divine weapons and artifacts in Greek mythology are said to have been made by Hephaestus.
While he is known as a lame god and might not seem particularly formidable, he is in fact reasonably powerful in a fight. During the Gigantomachy (the war against the Giants), he slew the powerful giant Mimas by hurling red-hot metal at him. During the Trojan War, he drove off the river god Scamander β who had been trying to kill Achilles β by pouring scorching flames on him until the river dried up.
Why This Ranking
The fact that he easily defeated the river god Scamander, against whom even the greatest of human heroes Achilles was completely helpless, and that he performed admirably in the Gigantomachy, suggests that his divine authority is as powerful as that of the top-tier gods.
While his power clearly transcends that of any human hero, the fact that he is described as lame means he would have virtually no chance of winning a straight one-on-one fight against a peer.
If he knew his opponent in advance and could prepare specialized equipment ahead of time, Hephaestus could potentially defeat opponents far above his own rank β but factoring that into this ranking would make things overly complicated, so I evaluated him at this position.
