The Debate Over the Strongest in Christianity & Judaism
The world is home to a vast array of mythologies, religions, and legends, but Christianity and Judaism are the monotheistic faiths with the most believers in the world, and their scriptures feature not only God but many angels and monsters.
I previously created an overall power ranking covering all mythologies, religions, and legends, and beings from these faiths made the list as well.
Building on that earlier ranking, I have now created a separate ranking focused exclusively on Christianity and Judaism (the Abrahamic religions).
Please note that this article is, above all, a subjective, entertainment-oriented ranking based purely on the depictions in scripture and tradition. It is in no way meant to debate the value of faith or the sanctity of religious teachings, and it is written with full respect for believers. I ask you to keep that in mind from the outset.
With that said, I encourage you to come up with your own ranking, and I would love for you to share your results with me as well!
What Are the Abrahamic Religions?
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all trace their faith back to the prophet Abraham, and are collectively called the “Abrahamic religions.”
Although they are separate religions, the object of their worship is essentially the same: the one true God who alone exists in the universe. This article focuses on the beings of Christianity and Judaism in particular.
The defining feature is, above all, that the “One God” — an absolute being of infinite, omniscient, and omnipotent power — sits at the very top. Where other polytheistic faiths divide power among many gods, here the One God alone holds every role.
As a result, this is the only mythology or religion whose top figure also claimed the #1 spot in the overall cross-mythology ranking — making it a uniquely distinctive list.
At the same time, because that God is so absolute, even Satan and the great monsters — described as “slayable only by God” — are dispatched almost instantly in God’s presence, an interesting structure all its own.

Power Ranking (Christianity & Judaism)
Let’s now announce the ranking from the lowest position upward. The ranking focuses primarily on beings with depictions in scripture or related texts that clearly demonstrate their power.
Many angels and monsters survive only as names with little description of their power, and those beings have been excluded.
Rank 7: George — Saint George (Overall Ranking: #98)
Saint George is one of the most famous saints in Christianity, known for the dragon-slaying legend of “Saint George and the Dragon.” Said to be a real 4th-century soldier, he was ultimately martyred under Roman persecution.
He slew a mighty venomous dragon that a town of over 15,000 could not, and endured torture by divine protection. But he was ultimately beheaded, so he does not surpass the realm of a human hero.

Rank 6: Behemoth (Overall Ranking: #35)
Behemoth is a colossal land beast of the Old Testament, the counterpart to the sea monster Leviathan, and is called “the first of God’s works.”
Scripture alone reads almost like an ordinary elephant, but later texts describe it as the strongest beast on earth, eating the grass of a thousand mountains a day. As Leviathan’s counterpart and “slayable only by God,” it holds power enough to destroy the world on its own.

Rank 5: The Beast of Revelation (Overall Ranking: #32)
In the end times of the Book of Revelation, the Beast — empowered by the red dragon (Satan) — rules over humanity. The First Beast (the martial one), with ten horns and seven heads, is evaluated here.
“Who is like the beast, and who can wage war against it?” it is said; it heals even fatal wounds and actually subjugated the world. This places it at the level of the destroyer gods of other mythologies.

Rank 4: Leviathan (Overall Ranking: #22)
Leviathan is the colossal sea monster of the Old Testament, treated as the “strongest monster” in scripture — breathing fire, with scales no weapon can pierce, and so fearsome that any hero loses the will to fight at a glance.
Later Jewish texts call it “slayable only by God,” and its body, said to cover the whole sea, rivals or even exceeds the Norse Jörmungandr in scale — far stronger than an ordinary destroyer god.

Rank 3: Michael (Overall Ranking: #19)
Michael is the “archangel,” and the only being explicitly called an archangel in scripture — even Gabriel and Raphael are not.
Angels are like “weapons to destroy evil” serving the One God, yet their power is not inferior to the gods of other mythologies. Michael led the heavenly host to defeat Satan’s army, marking him the strongest of the angels.

Rank 2: Satan (Overall Ranking: #18)
Satan, the being of evil in the Abrahamic religions, appears in Christianity most famously as a great red dragon with seven heads and ten horns (the identification with the fallen angel Lucifer is a later interpretation).
In Revelation, “his tail swept a third of the stars from the sky” — power enough to cast down many stars with a single sweep. He empowered the Beast of Revelation and is essentially an immortal slayable only by God. He lost to Michael in an army battle, but one-on-one, given his sheer influence, he is placed above Michael.

Rank 1: God Almighty (Overall Ranking: #1)
At the top of Christianity and Judaism is, of course, the One God. And this God also took first place in the overall ranking across all mythologies, religions, and legends — the literal strongest of all.
God’s power is, in a word, “infinite”: creating, destroying, and ruling all, perfectly omniscient and omnipotent. Transcending time and space, God created light in the cosmos with a single “Let there be light,” and destroyed humanity with floods and fire from heaven. Where other myths divide power among many gods, this God alone holds every role and authority — a decisive gap above all other beings.

Summary
This ranking was created by focusing exclusively on Christianity and Judaism within the larger overall ranking that covered all mythologies, religions, and legends.
The defining feature of this list is, above all, that it holds the overall #1, the One God. The notion of infinite omniscience and omnipotence exceeds the scale of any other mythology, making God a being apart in any debate over strength.
At the same time, because God is so absolute, even powerful beings described as “slayable only by God,” such as Satan and Leviathan, are dispatched with ease in God’s presence — a distinctive two-tier structure that I found fascinating.
As noted, this article is purely a subjective, entertainment-oriented ranking based on depictions in scripture and tradition, and is not a commentary on the value of faith itself. I hope you will understand it in that spirit.
